Lacoste - Celebrating 80 Years

Most fashion brands consider a big anniversary a chance to pause innovation for the time being and simply re-issue iconic pieces. But for Lacoste, this isn't the whole story.  The sportswear label is using its 80th birthday as an excuse to inject some futurism into classic designs from its archives, via an exclusive new collection divided into two parts.

The first, Edition, showcases Lacoste's greatest hits. The second, Unexpected, puts a youthful, new spin on the brand's classic silhouettes (think polo dresses made of black leather and espadrille/tennis shoe hybrids).  Unexpected also has its own logo — a set of three multicolored wheels created by eminent British designer Peter Saville — to further differentiate it from those pieces marked by the famous little green crocodile.

This latest collection emphasizes the duality of sophistication and sportiness Lacoste has exhibited since its founding in 1933. After 80 years, this surely isn't your grandfather's Lacoste.
