UK grocery retailer Waitrose are testing a little device called hiku, which is a digital assistant that you can use to help build your shopping list.
hiku recognizes both barcodes and voice, instantly adding items to
your shopping list. hiku creates a shopping list that appears on your
mobile phone or tablet. You can share your list with family or anyone
else. When you add an item or cross one off, your list is updated
everywhere.
“Items can be added as they are taken out of the fridge,” said
Waitrose in a statement, “or customers can speak ingredients from
recipes as they plan their dinner. If customers prefer to add items on
the go when out of the home, an app on their phone also allows them to
update their order.”
If testing is successful then Waitrose plans to trial the device with customers in 2015.
