The Portuguese Chronograph is definitely one of the most classic IWC watches still in the current lineup. The clean looks, straightforward functionality, and easy of wear make it something that pretty much everyone can get behind. So, rather than do away with this model to make room for something new, IWC introduced its big brother earlier this year, the Portuguese Chronograph Classic. You can see them side-by-side above, and while they certainly share some features, these are very, very different watches.
To start, the Portuguese Chronograph Classic brings an in-house IWC movement to the mix – a calibre 89361 chronograph movement to be exact. This movement is automatic, has a 68-hour power reserve, is a flyback chronograph, and displays the elapsed minutes and hours in one subdial at 12 o’clock that you read like a normal clock or watch face. It’s a pretty powerful engine and fitting for the Portuguese.
